The No Child Left Behind Act of 2001 requires states to meet a variety of standards as they implement mandated assessment and accountability programs. In order to achieve a fully approved system for the Commonwealth, the Kentucky Department of Education contracted with an independent agency to review the alignment of the Kentucky Core Content Tests in reading, mathematics and science to Kentucky’s content standards, Core Content for Assessment 4.1, that the tests are designed to measure. The study was conducted in Frankfort, KY on July 18—20, 2007. The process involved educators and content experts from within and outside Kentucky. The results of the independent alignment study are organized by content area. For each content area, a report and an appendix of data tables are available.
